From: Anna Hayes Sent: 24 September 2025 09:35 To: Development Management Subject: FW: Consultation Letter for Planning Application Ref: 25/00828/FUL:Please see attached letter Good Evening Thank you for consulting TfGM in respect of Application 25/00828/FUL which seeks approval for the demolition of the existing Rochdale Railway Station north entrance external canopy and erection of new entrance canopy and street furniture. It is noted that Metrolink have provided separate comments today. In addition to the Metrolink response, TfGM's Active Travel team have the following comments: Rochdale Rail Station cycle parking Location and design We support the cycle parking location at the entrance. It is convenient, overlooked, sheltered, and well lit. We would recommend the use of Sheffield stands as they offer more secure storage and are easier to use than the two-tiered wheel locks represented in the designs and visualisations. Sheffield stands also enable use by none-standard cycle which would not fit into the two tiered wheel locks such as cargo bikes. However, we recognise the opportunity for greater volumes of cycle parking with the two-tiered approach. The model of two-tier parking represented in the shared documents ( cycle rack ) shows Sheffield stands on the lower tier and wheel locks on the higher tier – this would be our recommended two-tiered approach. We support the use of gas-assist for the second-tier racks supported as it makes it usable for a greater number of people and easier to use for all. Volume It is understood the volume of new cycle parking would be x6. We are aware of x10 existing cycle parking spaces on platform 1 of the station. LTN 1/20 recommends a minimum of x1 cycle parking spaces per 200 station daily users (Table 11-1). Rochdale Station has on average x4090 daily users (2023/24 data). This equates to a recommendation of x21 cycle parking spaces. Therefore, we would request an additional x5 spaces in additional to the proposed x6 spaces to reach a total station cycle parking provision of x21.
